FAUZIA
Emerging from NTS's radio scene, FAUZIA has developed since the 2010s a practice that connects DJ sets, composition, production, singing and audiovisual installations. Her work crosses footwork, jungle, bass music, ambient and a compositional approach that also engages with contemporary music, in forms where broken rhythms, diffuse soundscapes and often restrained vocals coexist without a hierarchy of genre. FAUZIA's shows on NTS established the framework for this approach, later extended by mixes for BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, Rinse FM and The Lot Radio, and by performances at venues and festivals such as Unsound in Kraków, Berghain in Berlin, De School in Amsterdam and Nowadays in New York. During the pandemic, FAUZIA self-released the projects Fragments, are you hoping for a miracle? and flashes in time, while continuing production and collaborative work with Kelela, Duval Timothy and Tirzah. Commissions from the Southbank Centre and King's Place subsequently steered this trajectory towards stage and instrumental forms presented notably at Tate Modern, La Cigale, Pioneer Works and, in 2024, at St Paul's Cathedral in London as the opening for a Patti Smith concert.
