Combichrist
Founded in the early 2000s around Norwegian musician Andy LaPlegua, Combichrist initially aligned with the aggrotech and electro‑industrial movement before gradually shifting toward a sound that blends industrial metal, EBM, and rock influences. Launched as a harsher side project to Icon of Coil, Combichrist developed an aesthetic centered on pounding, upfront rhythms, abrasive electronic textures, and distorted vocals—designed as much for industrial club floors as for metal stages. After relocating to the United States, the project took the shape of a band with a fluid lineup, whose live setup emphasizes the percussive and guitar‑driven side of the repertoire. The albums The Joy of Gunz (2003), Everybody Hates You (2005), and What the F**k Is Wrong with You People? (2007) laid the groundwork for a dancefloor‑oriented sound, while Today We Are All Demons (2009), Making Monsters (2010), and We Love You (2014) expanded the writing toward more rock‑leaning structures. With No Redemption (2013), tied to the DmC: Devil May Cry video‑game universe, followed by This Is Where Death Begins (2016) and One Fire (2019), Combichrist cemented this hybridization between dark electronic music and metal energy, regularly showcased on international tours and at specialized festivals.
