JJ
Under the name JJ, Johannes Pietsch develops a style that sits between contemporary pop and lyrical singing, carried by a countertenor voice with very pronounced high notes. Born in Vienna in 2001 to an Austrian father and a Filipino mother, JJ grew up largely in Dubai before returning to Austria in 2016 — a trajectory that illuminates the intersection of pop culture, family karaoke practice and a more classical vocal training present in his music. JJ first came to attention in 2020 on The Voice UK, where he reached the Knockouts, and again in 2021 on Starmania in Austria. At the same time he attended the opera school of the Vienna State Opera and continued his studies at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. In 2025 JJ represented Austria at Eurovision with "Wasted Love", a song co‑written with Teya and Thomas Thurner, and won the contest. His repertoire so far remains concentrated around a few singles, including "Back to Forgetting" and "Haunting Me" in 2025, ahead of the EP "Into the Unknown" released in 2026. For JJ, the pop melodic line and the operatically inspired interpretation move together in a brief, direct and highly vocal format.
