Christopher Cross

Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1951, Christopher Cross emerged in the late 1970s on the American soft rock and adult contemporary scene with a melodic style that would later be associated with yacht rock. His self-titled debut album, released in 1979, brought him mainstream attention thanks to the singles "Ride Like the Wind" and "Sailing," and earned him several Grammy Awards in 1981, including album and record of the year. In the early 1980s he followed up with Another Page (1983) and Every Turn of the World (1985), and co-wrote the theme for the film Arthur in 1981 with Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager, further boosting his presence on soundtracks and American radio. The albums Back of My Mind (1988) and Rendezvous (1992) represent a quieter period but confirm his affinity for sophisticated pop rock with polished arrangements and gentle vocal harmonies. From Walking in Avalon (1998) through Doctor Faith (2011), Secret Ladder (2014) and Take Me As I Am (2017), Christopher Cross has continued to focus his songwriting on ballads, West Coast pop and light jazz touches, which he performs on regular tours across North America and Europe.
