Paul Young

Born in Luton, Bedfordshire, Paul Young first made his mark on the British pub rock and rhythm and blues scene with Streetband and then Q-Tips, where he developed a soul‑inflected voice and a very melodic approach to pop. His solo career took shape in the early 1980s with material positioned between blue‑eyed soul, soft rock and sophisticated pop, often featuring rearranged covers and restrained interpretations. Paul Young released No Parlez in 1983, followed by The Secret of Association in 1985 and Between Two Fires in 1986, a period that notably includes 'Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home)' and 'Every Time You Go Away.' In the 1990s he continued this work with Other Voices (1990) and The Crossing (1993), while broadening his palette toward more American sounds. This shift is also evident in Los Pacaminos, the collective he led alongside his solo work, blending Tex‑Mex, country rock and roots music. Paul Young's career also features occasional collaborations, notably the duet 'Senza una donna' with Zucchero, forming a coherent whole between British pop, soul and an American‑influenced repertoire.
