Kathryn Mohr

Based in Oakland, in the California Bay Area, Kathryn Mohr develops a music situated between minimalist folk, slowcore, ambient, and experimental songwriting, with a stripped-down writing that leaves a wide space for silence, textures, and emotional tension. Kathryn Mohr released her first EP, As If, in 2020, built around analog synthesizers and dark songs with restrained lines, then continued with Holly in 2022, co-produced with Madeline Johnston of Midwife, where guitars take more space amid starker electronic interludes. Published by The Flenser label, her music sits within an indie scene attentive to slow, introspective, and less demonstrative forms. Her first album, Waiting Room, comes out in 2025 after a period of writing and recording in isolation in Iceland, a context that prolongs her relationship to landscape and duration in pieces with sparse arrangements. With Carve, also released in 2025, Kathryn Mohr further broadens her sonic vocabulary: the compositions remain sober and intimate, but open to denser textures, sometimes more abrasive, without losing that very direct way of working with fragility, memory, and waiting.
