Múr

Emerging from the Icelandic underground, Múr performs as a quintet and develops a dark, atmospheric metal that resists narrow labels by combining extended compositions, dense textures and songwriting focused on emotional tension. The band began attracting attention on the festival circuit even before its debut album, notably after a set at the Soulcrusher Festival in 2023, which helped raise their profile beyond Iceland. This initial run of concerts preceded the release of Múr, the self-titled album released on 22 November 2024 via Century Media Records. Refusing to be confined to a single subgenre, Múr cultivates an aesthetic in which metal’s weight is paired with misty atmospheres, slow progressions and a pronounced contrast between raw intensity and more suspended passages. In this way Múr sits within a generation of Icelandic groups that approach metal as an open terrain—balancing sonic density, a melancholic atmosphere and formats that go beyond straightforward directness.
