The Electric Swing Circus
Based in Birmingham, England since 2011, The Electric Swing Circus has developed a band-based electro-swing formula featuring two female vocalists, a rhythm section and electronic arrangements that blend swing, pop, dance jazz and bass music without losing the effectiveness of the live format. The Electric Swing Circus first emerged with the EP Penniless Optimist in 2011, then refined this mix on the album The Electric Swing Circus in 2013, where the songwriting draws as much from the codes of swing cabaret as from club pulses. The project quickly became part of the British and European festival circuit, appearing at Bestival, Boomtown, WOMAD, Shambala and Glastonbury, while maintaining strong roots in its hometown, notably through the launch of the Swingamajig festival in Digbeth. After the Empires EP (Swingamajig Edition) in 2016, The Electric Swing Circus continued its evolution with It Flew By in 2017 and the EP Connected/Invisible Man in 2019, broadening its spectrum toward cleaner electronic pop and less retro textures. Pleasure Seekers, released in 2022, continues this trajectory with a more upfront sound, still founded on the meeting of swing heritage and contemporary production.
