Alex Isley

Between New Jersey and Los Angeles, Alex Isley’s path sits within a family soul tradition while moving toward contemporary R&B with neo‑soul inflections. The daughter of guitarist Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers, she grew up immersed in gospel, jazz and soul before developing a vocal approach centered on stacked harmonies, slow tempos and intimate atmospheres. Based in California, Isley began to attract attention in the early 2010s with tracks released online and her self‑produced first project, The Love/Art Memoirs (2012), which established an aesthetic combining alternative R&B, jazz touches and introspective songwriting. She followed with several EPs and collaborations — notably with producer Jack Dine — on songs built around understated grooves, muted keyboards and a foregrounded voice. That partnership led to the album Marigold (2022), which consolidated Alex Isley’s place on the independent American and international R&B scene, through club tours, festival appearances and small‑band concerts.
