Vera Sola

Under the name Vera Sola, Danielle Aykroyd has built a body of work situated between folk, indie folk, country and Americana, with narrative-driven songwriting, taut acoustic arrangements and dark atmospheres sometimes tinged with gothic overtones. Born in Los Angeles in 1989, the American-Canadian musician grew up between New York and Canada, studied literature at Harvard and worked in poetry before moving into radio, voice-over and the stage. Her musical path took shape through her association with Elvis Perkins, whom she accompanied on tour and in the studio during the I Aubade cycle, first as a bassist and later on other instruments. Vera Sola launched her solo project in 2017, the year she released Last Caress, an EP of Misfits covers, and then recorded, arranged and produced Shades entirely on her own, released in 2018. That debut album established a personal language at the intersection of the American ballad, dark folk and an offbeat country. In 2024, Vera Sola continues that trajectory with Peacemaker, in a more expansive format but still centered on introspective songwriting and a blend of folk, Americana and cinematic darkness.
