On 18 November 2026, corto.alto lands at Future Yard in Birkenhead for a set that sits right on the border between jazz gig and club night. Led by Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, the project has been gaining serious momentum: the debut album Bad With Names was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize and picked up Best Album at the Scottish Jazz Awards, before Shortall took Act Of The Year at the 2025 Jazz FM Awards.
Now on Ninja Tune, corto.alto keeps pushing that hybrid sound, where brass lines and live energy lock into beats, electronic production and hip-hop-rooted grooves. Recent singles DON’T LISTEN, VANDAL and APRIL (feat. anaiis) capture that cross-pollination: tight, modern writing with space for improvisation, built for both big speakers and a stage. Expect a show that moves fast, switches textures, and leans into the collective pulse that’s been coming out of Glasgow’s fertile scene.
