If you’re looking for an evening centered on voice, lyrics, and space to breathe, you’re in the right place with Bongeziwe Mabandla. The South African singer-songwriter moves somewhere between Afro-folk, soul, and subtle electronics, with songs that begin small and slowly unfold. He mainly sings in isiXhosa, sometimes in English, and focuses on what happens inside: love, doubt, memory, and the traces that relationships leave behind. Since Umlilo (2012), Mabandla has been building a recognisable universe of acoustic lines, soft harmonies, and melodies that sit close to the skin. On Mangaliso (2017) and later iimini (2020) he shifts toward rhythm and layered, minimal productions, without losing the intimacy. Live, that gains extra tension: warm, carefully built and with enough pauses to let the words land. Bongeziwe Mabandla will perform at the Melkweg in Amsterdam on 20 November 2026.
