On July 8, 2027, Jools Holland arrives at the Llangollen Pavilion with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, a powerhouse live act built for swing, boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues. A pianist born in Blackheath, who came to prominence with Squeeze in the late 1970s alongside Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Holland later forged a career centered on the piano, straddling blues, rock ’n’ roll and formats close to the big band.
On stage, his rapid, nervy playing blends with an ever-present brass section, in a repertoire that draws as much from the classics of the genre as from his own records, from Sex & Jazz & Rock & Roll to Small World Big Band. The orchestra’s collective energy leaves room for exchanges, for call-and-response and for more measured moments, with that groove-driven sensibility that has become his signature across tours and collaborations.
