Info

Ava Mendoza and Wendy Eisenberg will reunite at La Dynamo de Banlieues Bleues on October 31, 2026 for a concert devoted to electric guitars and to open forms blending rock, jazz and improvisation.

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, since the 2010s Wendy Eisenberg has built a career at the crossroads of indie song, experimental rock, jazz, and free improvisation. A guitarist, composer and improviser, Wendy Eisenberg moves her writing between solo formats and collaborative projects, with an approach in which folk structures can distort toward more abstract, noisy or open forms. Her discography includes Its Shape Is Your Touch (2018), Auto (2020) and Viewfinder (2024), three milestones that illustrate different ways of combining voice, guitar and formal exploration. Alongside her solo releases, Wendy Eisenberg has pursued numerous collaborations in the DIY, experimental and jazz scenes of the American East Coast, playing in contexts ranging from songwriting to collective improvisation. Their guitar playing, often mobile, alternates between clear lines, dissonances, rhythmic ruptures and freer textures, without settling into a single language.

Born in Miami and having spent time in Southern California before settling in Oakland and then Brooklyn, Ava Mendoza has since the 2000s developed a career at the crossroads of experimental rock, free jazz, improvised music and a guitar writing nourished by both blistering blues and punk. Trained in classical guitar at the Interlochen Arts Academy and then at Mills College with Fred Frith, Ava Mendoza first established herself in the Bay Area scenes before continuing her activity in New York, notably in venues such as The Stone, Roulette or at the Vision Festival. Her playing, physical and fragmented, alternates heavy riffs, dissonances, open lines and free improvisation. As a solo artist, Ava Mendoza has released Shadow Stories in 2010 and The Circular Train in 2024. She also leads Unnatural Ways, an avant-rock trio that has gone through several formations, documented notably by Unnatural Ways (2015), We Aliens (2016) and The Paranoia Party (2019). Over the years, Ava Mendoza has also played and recorded with William Parker, William Hooker, Jon Irabagon, Nels Cline, Fred Frith, Negativland and Bill Orcutt, in contexts ranging from improvised duos to denser electric ensembles.
