On February 19, 2027, The Undertones celebrate fifty years of their career on the Millennium Forum stage in Derry. Formed in the mid-1970s in Northern Ireland, the band made a name for itself by blending punk urgency with a genuine sense of pop melody, with short songs, direct riffs, and lyrics anchored in everyday life, love stories, and adolescence. From the album The Undertones (1979), and then with Hypnotised (1980), their nerve-wracking power-pop formula found a simple and effective balance. In the early 1980s, Positive Touch (1981) and The Sin of Pride (1983) broadened the band's palette with more intricate structures and influences from pop and soul, before they split up. Reformed in the late 1990s with Paul McLoone on vocals, the band continued the journey without losing its taste for tense and melodic tracks, as heard on Get What You Need (2003) and Dig Yourself Deep (2007). On this anniversary tour, audiences come mainly for that quintessential Undertones way of making three chords sound like an entire song.
