American Aquarium arrives in Cambridge on November 10, 2026, on the MASH stage, with their Americana-tinged country-rock shaped on the road since the mid-2000s. Led by BJ Barham, the songwriter at the heart of the project, the band draws from Southern rock, alt-country, and a lyric attentive to everyday lives, the landscapes of the South, and intimate frailties, between electric guitars and pedal steel.
Initially propelled by intense live activity and records such as Antique Hearts, The Bible and the Bottle, or Small Town Hymns, American Aquarium later widened its playground with Burn. Flicker. Die., produced by Jason Isbell, followed by Wolves, Things Change, and Lamentations, recorded with Shooter Jennings. Despite lineup changes, the formula remains direct and melodic, capable of alternating expansive ballads and tighter tracks, as on Chicamacomico and The Fear of Standing Still. Special guests round out the bill.
