Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Around the singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, the band Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit formed in the late 2000s, rooted between Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Nashville, Tennessee. After several years with Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell launched this collective project drawing on Americana, alternative country and Southern rock, with songwriting focused on intimate narratives and contemporary social tensions. The first studio album under the name Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit appeared in 2009, followed by Here We Rest in 2011, which confirmed the group's place on the American roots scene, along with sustained touring that produced several live recordings. With The Nashville Sound in 2017 and Reunions in 2020, both made in collaboration with producer Dave Cobb, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit honed a sound combining electric guitars, folk influences and denser arrangements. Weathervanes, released in 2023, continues this exploration of melodic, narrative American rock. Backed by a recurring group of musicians around Jason Isbell, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit continues the Southern U.S. songwriting tradition while engaging with Nashville's independent scene.
