BlackHawk built their sound around tight three-part harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, and that sweet spot between country-rock and pop-ready hooks. Formed around Henry Paul alongside Van Stephenson and Dave Robbins, the band broke through with their self-titled 1994 album, then kept the momentum going with Strong Enough and Love & Gravity, leaning into melodic storytelling and road-worn emotion.
David Lee Murphy comes with a more straight-ahead honky-tonk bite and a knack for narrative songwriting. After making his mark in the mid-’90s with tracks like Party Crowd and Dust on the Bottle, he’s balanced his own records with a long stretch as a go-to writer in Nashville, while still dropping albums like No Zip Code and keeping that punchy, chorus-first style front and center on stage.
