BlackHawk
Formed in the early 1990s within Nashville’s country scene, BlackHawk coalesced around singer‑guitarist Henry Paul, joined by Van Stephenson and Dave Robbins — three singer‑songwriters rooted in American country and Southern rock. The trio developed a repertoire blending country, country‑rock and pop touches, driven by three‑part vocal harmonies and a guitar‑forward sound featuring both acoustic and electric guitars. Their debut studio album, simply titled “Blackhawk” (1994), established the band in the country landscape, followed by “Strong Enough” (1995) and “Love & Gravity” (1997), which reinforced a songwriting approach centered on melodies and sentimental or autobiographical narratives. After Van Stephenson’s death in 2001, BlackHawk continued with a reconfigured lineup and released albums such as “Spirit Dancer” (2002) and “Brothers of the Southland” (2014), while remaining a frequent presence on festival bills and club‑ and amphitheater tours across the United States. Over the years, the band has relied on Henry Paul’s experience — he has also been associated with The Outlaws — to maintain a steady link between country tradition, Southern rock heritage and contemporary radio formats.
