Mariza

Mariza will perform on 22 April 2027 at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Born in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) and raised in Lisbon’s Mouraria district, she took her first steps in the fado houses and, in the early 2000s, became one of the driving forces behind the new wave of fado. With Fado em Mim (2001) she set the tone, followed by Fado Curvo, Transparente, Terra and Fado Tradicional: a trajectory in which she places traditional forms alongside her own material and gently opens the genre to other Lusophone and Mediterranean influences. With Mundo (2015), produced by Javier Limón, she pursued that balance further, and with Mariza canta Amália (2020) she returns to the pioneer of the modern fado repertoire.

On stage Mariza explores the tension between tradition and renewal. Her voice and phrasing remain firmly rooted in the language of fado, while the arrangements allow space for a contemporary colour. Expect not a static museum piece but a living dialogue with the repertoire: classic fados, original songs and reinterpretations that gradually build a narrative. In Eindhoven she presents a set that summarises her journey and demonstrates how the saudade of Lisbon sounds today.
