Info
On 27 November 2026 at O2 Academy Oxford, Big Country and The Alarm share the stage for a night anchored in sharp guitars and straight-to-the-point songwriting.
Born in Dunfermline in 1981, Big Country shaped a taut, melodic rock where chiming guitars hint at Scottish folk inflections. From the early pulse of The Crossing and Steeltown to The Seer and later chapters like The Journey, their music balances drive and melody without losing its edge. Reformed in the 2000s around guitarist Bruce Watson, the band leans on twin-guitar textures, rolling rhythms and tunes that carry live, drawing lines between post-punk roots and folk-tinged rock.
Formed the same year in Rhyl, The Alarm carved out a sound between new wave, post-punk and alternative rock, shifting easily from acoustic strums to electric lift-offs. Their early run of singles — The Stand, Blaze of Glory, Sixty Eight Guns, Spirit of ’76 — set a clear path, followed by albums from Declaration and Strength to Equals, Sigma and Forwards. On stage, that mix becomes direct and dynamic, with ringing guitars, brisk tempos and choruses built to be sung back.
