Nick Mulvey

Info

Nick Mulvey brings his folk-rooted, border-crossing songwriting to Albert Hall, Manchester on 14 May 2026. A founding member of Portico Quartet and later Mercury Prize–nominated as a solo artist, he has shaped a language of fingerpicked guitars, cyclical rhythms and a calm, focused intensity. Formed between Spain, Cuba and London, his approach blends acoustic folk with open, percussive patterns and subtle world influences, where melodies loop and stories unfold at their own pace.

On stage, Mulvey builds songs from the ground up: hand-drummed guitar, interlocking motifs and mantras that move from intimate confession to collective chant. He revisits early material and newer pieces with a live, human swing, shifting grooves and refrains to find fresh angles without overloading the sound. The set favours feel and detail—lines that circle back, harmonies that rise gently, rhythms that invite you in rather than push.

This date is a chance to hear his craft up close: songs about connection, travel and attention to the world, carried by a warm tone and a precise touch. Voice and strings do most of the talking, with space left for texture, silence and those slow-building crescendos that reward patient listening.
