Jools Holland brings his piano-led Rhythm and Blues Orchestra to New Theatre Oxford in Oxford on 8 November 2026. Founding member of Squeeze turned bandleader, he drives the show from the keys with rolling boogie-woogie, blues shuffles and swing grooves, backed by a full big-band line-up. Tight horns trade riffs, the rhythm section leans into jump blues, and arrangements shift from smoky shuffle to rock’n’roll stride in a heartbeat. Holland’s touch is quick and melodic, his left hand anchoring those classic bass lines while the brass fires call-and-response hooks around him. The set typically croises originals with rhythm and blues standards and a few detours, all tailored for his long-running Orchestra and its ensemble sound. It’s music made for the stage: clean charts, space for solos, and that conversational back-and-forth between piano and horns. A night centered on groove, swing and the feel of live players pushing each other.
