Info
Can rock ’n’ roll change the world? Jon Spencer answers yes. Mr. Blues Explosion continues to light torches and make a big racket, singing and preaching from the rooftops—on stages around the world, on the airwaves, by satellite, and with the new album Songs of Personal Loss and Protest, due June 12, 2026. Jon Spencer will present this record live in France on July 7 at La Maroquinerie, Paris, accompanied by the rhythm section of The Bobby Lees: Spider Bowman on drums and Kendall Wind on bass. The single “Knock ’Em Out” is already available to listen to.
For more than forty years, Jon Spencer has been a driving force on the independent music scene. A live performer, he has built a discography as leader of Pussy Galore, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Heavy Trash and Jon Spencer & the HITmakers, as well as with Boss Hog, The Honeymoon Killers, Gibson Brothers and Taxidermy Girls. This nervous, abrasive aesthetic is evident on Orange (1994) and in his collaboration with R. L. Burnside on A Ass Pocket of Whiskey (1996), an album that sits between hill country blues and raw rock. After the end of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was announced in 2022, Jon Spencer continued under his own name with Jon Spencer & the HITmakers, then with a trio formed with Kendall Wind and Macky “Spider” Bowman. Jon Spencer released Spencer Sings the Hits! in 2018 and Sick of Being Sick! in 2024, remaining true to a dry, taut, and confrontational sound at the intersection of blues, punk, and garage rock.
