Info
On July 3, 2026 KRS-One will perform at the Patronaat in Haarlem. Born Lawrence Parker in Brooklyn and raised in the South Bronx, he stepped into the New York hip‑hop circuit in the mid‑1980s with Boogie Down Productions and DJ Scott La Rock. Criminal Minded (1987) set the tone: street realism, a social perspective, and a preference for raw boom‑bap. After Scott La Rock’s death, KRS‑One continued as a solo artist. With Return of the Boom Bap (1993) his direct flow and didactic lyricism found their own form; since then he has mixed autobiography, hip‑hop history and spiritual references. His nickname, The Teacha, is no accident: alongside records he has given talks and launched initiatives such as the Temple of Hip Hop.
Live, he builds his set around BDP classics and solo tracks like KRS‑One (1995) and I Got Next (1997), supplemented by more recent work and collaborations with the likes of Marley Marl and Buckshot. Expect tight breaks, call‑and‑response, room for freestyle, and lyrics that provide context without losing momentum. The support act will warm up the crowd; KRS‑One delivers a show that treats hip‑hop as both music and conversation, with that recognizable boom‑bap energy and a focus on content, timing and audience.
