Info
Black Sea Dahu, the Zurich project fronted by singer-songwriter Janine Cathrein, brings its indie-folk to the Kulturetage in Oldenburg on 28 March 2026. Positioned somewhere between a band and a collective, the group favors stripped-back arrangements of guitars, subtle percussion and strings, carried by Cathrein’s dark voice. The songs unfold slowly, leaving plenty of space for lyrics and harmony, close to the tradition of acoustic folk and Americana aesthetics without being tied to it.
After an initial phase under the name Josh, the 2018 album White Creatures marked the starting point of the sound the group now explores, followed by the compact EP No Fire In The Sand. With 2022’s I Am My Mother, the band widened its sonic palette, introducing electric shimmer and more expansive structures while remaining true to its intimate core. Live, Black Sea Dahu varies its lineup—sometimes very pared-down, sometimes broader—always with a focus on voices, textures and small arcs of tension. In Oldenburg the group will unfold this spectrum between quiet detail and calm urgency—approachable, precise and never overblown.
