On June 28, 2026, TD Coliseum in Hamilton hosts the Nights Like This Tour with Ne-Yo and Akon, a meeting of two artists who pushed R&B toward pop, dance and global sounds while keeping a strong writing focus.
Ne-Yo, born in Camden and raised in Las Vegas, first made his mark as a songwriter before stepping out front with In My Own Words in 2006. Because of You (2007) and Year of the Gentleman (2008) set a template of mid-tempo ballads, hip-hop‑leaning production and catchy hooks, later expanded with electronic textures across Libra Scale (2010), R.E.D. (2012), Non-Fiction (2015), Good Man (2018) and Self Explanatory (2022). Parallel to his solo work, he continues to write for major voices in R&B and pop, and appears in film and TV around music and dance.
Akon, born in St. Louis and raised between New Jersey and Senegal, built a sound anchored in back-and-forth influences between the US and Africa. Singer, writer and producer, he broke through with Trouble (2004), followed by Konvicted (2006) and Freedom (2008), where his R&B opened to pop and dance and frequent cross-genre collaborations. From 2010 on, he leaned further into a global palette, affirmed on the 2019 projects El Negreeto and Akonda, connecting afro-pop, contemporary R&B and club-driven rhythms, alongside his work as a producer and label head.
