Formed in Sydney in 2009, Boy & Bear revolve around singer and guitarist Dave Hosking, a five-piece that blends indie folk, alternative rock and melodic pop with close-knit harmonies and interlaced acoustic and electric guitars. Early releases like Mexican Mavis and the EP With Emperor Antarctica led to Moonfire and Harlequin Dream, shaping a sound that balances supple rhythms with a 70s-leaning rock edge. Limit of Love leaned into a live, direct approach, before Suck on Light explored more nuanced textures. Their self-titled 2023 album sharpened the arrangements, putting keys, guitars and voices up front and keeping the band active on international stages. With the Tripping Over Time tour, the group revisits a catalogue that spans these records while giving newer songs space to breathe.
