Info

On 2 October 2026 De Staat will perform their show De Staat becomes De Staat at Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. The band led by Torre Florim, formed in 2006 in Nijmegen, uses this format to return to what has driven their sound for years: tight grooves, angular guitars, a deep bass and rhythms that grind between dance and post‑punk. Repetition as the driving force, choruses that invite chanting, and a band feel that stays tight even when the synths take over.

Since Wait for Evolution (2009) De Staat has, with Machinery, I_CON, O and Bubble Gum, built a language of their own in which indie rock and a rawer pop intersect. In Carré this translates into a set that showcases the band's different faces, from pulsing patterns to compact hooks. Florim heightens the tension with feverish cadences and parlando lines, while Rocco Hueting, Jop van Summeren and Tim van Delft keep the engine tight. De Staat becomes De Staat is not a retrospective, but a live framework in which the band highlights its DNA: groove first, repetition as a tension arc, and songs that build in waves into collective energy.
