Info

Dodgy and The Icicle Works share the stage on 2 October 2026 at O2 Institute Birmingham. Formed in Hounslow in 1990 by Nigel Clark, Mathew Priest and Andy Miller, Dodgy came up through the britpop years with a melodic rock that leans on power pop and bright guitars. The early run from The Dodgy Album (1993) to Homegrown (1994) and Free Peace Sweet (1996) set the tone, with songs like Staying Out for the Summer, Good Enough and If You’re Thinking of Me. After a break and a return to the original trio in 2007, the band opened a new chapter with Stand Upright in a Cool Place (2012) and What Are We Fighting For (2016). On stage today, Dodgy often performs as a quartet with Stuart Thoy on bass.

Liverpool’s The Icicle Works first took shape in the early 1980s around Ian McNabb, with Chris Layhe and Chris Sharrock. Emerging from the UK independent scene, they blend post-punk, new wave and neo-psychedelia into melodic, guitar-led songs with a darker undercurrent. Early singles Nirvana and Love Is a Wonderful Colour (1983) defined their identity, followed by the self-titled debut in 1984 and the albums If You Want to Defeat Your Enemy Sing His Song (1987), Blind (1988) and Permanent Damage (1990). With McNabb as the constant, their catalogue moves from chiming, widescreen rock to more acoustic-leaning moments.
