Laurent de Wilde Trio

On 24 April 2026 at the Sunset Sunside in Paris, Laurent de Wilde presents his trio. A French pianist born in Washington who spent time in New York in the 1980s, he retained from those years a taste for swing and taut, nervy improvisation, informed by bop and hard bop. His writing today opens onto freer forms and repetitive pulses while remaining faithful to the grammar of the piano trio. Between finely wrought themes and stretching motifs, the playing progresses through contrasts, seeking a balance between rhythmic tension and melodic breathing.

At his side are Jérôme Regard on double bass and Donald Kontomanou on drums, regular partners in this trio. The rhythm section lays down the foundation, propels the music, and establishes colour and relief, serving a tight dialogue in which each intervention can shift the centre of gravity. The leader’s compositions and revisited standards may intersect, with a way of taking a motif, turning it around, unsettling it, then bringing it back to essentials. An evening conceived for collective listening, between jazz tradition and a contemporary spirit.
