On 29 June 2026, the Grand Rex in Paris brings together Terence Blanchard and Ravi Coltrane to mark the joint centenary of Miles Davis and John Coltrane (1926–2026). Terence Blanchard, trumpeter and composer and a regular collaborator of Spike Lee, approaches Davis’s repertoire with arrangements and improvisations that traverse the various periods, from the early quintets to the electric turnings. Ravi Coltrane, saxophonist and composer, supervised the use of Alice Coltrane’s works for Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla soundtrack; on stage he explores group dynamics and sonic textures. Having already collaborated on the music for Taylor Hackford’s film The Comedian, they reunite here for a programme that revisits Davis and Coltrane with respect for the originals and freedom of interpretation, mindful both of their legacy and of jazz’s contemporary trajectories.
