James Baker

Based in the Paris suburbs, James Baker is part of the French indie scene with a project conceived as a coherent whole, in which songwriting occupies a central place. Self-taught, James Baker wears the hats of songwriter, composer, performer and producer, creating a sound that blurs the lines between indie pop, alternative rock, electronic music and rap. The visual dimension strongly structures his work, nourished by an avowed cinephilia that shapes both the atmospheres and the way emotions are narrated. With the conceptual project Romy Rose, James Baker has imagined a double EP inspired by the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, marked by melancholic pop and electronic hues, and showing affinities with artists such as Djo, Fontaines D.C., Daft Punk and The Strokes. Across this cycle of tracks, he tackles memory, the desire for erasure and emotional resilience, probing denial, love and identity through a fragmented narrative that operates like a succession of introspective scenes.
