Spider ZED

Originally from Saint-Étienne, Spider ZED established himself in the independent French rap scene during the 2010s with an approach that blends rap phrasing, light singing and songwriting firmly grounded in everyday life. Far from the genre’s most showy codes, he works on tracks with understated productions, often tinged with pop and melancholy, where humour, self-mockery and a degree of nonchalance serve texts about anxiety, relationships, work, doubt and the uncertainties of early adulthood. First noticed online thanks to a series of tracks and videos released on platforms, he has progressively built a coherent path within the francophone scene, notably in connection with the Forchetta label. Spider ZED’s evolution is evident in how he tightens his writing and broadens his range — between spoken rap, chanson and indie pop — while retaining a direct delivery and a keen observational sense. He appears both on rap stages and on more cross-disciplinary bills in clubs, venues and festivals.
