Bo Ningen
Formed in London in the mid‑2000s, Bo Ningen brings together four Japanese musicians based in the UK and develops an experimental rock sound steeped in psychedelia and noise. The band, which notably includes bassist and vocalist Taigen Kawabe and guitarists Yuki Tsujii and Kohhei Matsuda, first made its mark on London’s underground scene, playing independent clubs and events tied to avant‑garde music. The eponymous debut album 'Bo Ningen' was released in 2010, followed by 'Line the Wall' in 2012 and 'III' in 2014, which confirmed a songwriting approach that mixes long hypnotic build‑ups, abrasive riffs and vocals sung mostly in Japanese. In 2014 Bo Ningen collaborated with the British band Savages on the extended piece 'Words to the Blind', situated midway between performance and collective composition. With 'Sudden Fictions' (2020), Bo Ningen continued its explorations between psychedelic rock, post‑punk influences and more melodic passages, while retaining a dense, repetitive and often dissonant approach that remains central to the quartet’s sonic identity.
