Bombino
Bombino is a Nigerien guitarist and singer‑songwriter from Agadez who has become one of the emblematic figures of contemporary Tuareg music. Born in 1980 into a nomadic family, he grew up amid exile, political instability and Saharan traditions — a background that shaped his artistic identity. Introduced to the guitar at a very young age, he developed a precise, fluid playing style inspired both by the Tuareg diaspora and by the music heard along desert roads. Emerging in the early 2010s, he quickly drew international attention thanks to a recognisable style and a singular trajectory. His first international album, Agadez (2011), propelled him onto the global stage, followed by Nomad in 2013, produced by Dan Auerbach, which consolidated his reputation. He went on to release Azel (2016) and then Deran (2018), a recording made in Morocco praised as a return to his roots. In 2023 he unveiled Sahel, a record that marks a new phase in his career, inspired by Tuareg youth and the upheavals in the region.
