Lava La Rue
Born in London and tied to West London, between Ladbroke Grove, Kensal Rise and St Raphael’s Estate, Lava La Rue has since the late 2010s developed a universe at the crossroads of alternative hip-hop, indie pop, psychedelic soul, and neo-psychedelia. A founding member and creative director of the NiNE8 collective, Lava La Rue emerges solo with the Letra EP in 2018, after a first single, 'Widdit', conceived during a stay in Tokyo that also marks her taste for cross-currents between London scenes and urban countercultures. Her music blends singing, rap and floating melodies in tracks often threaded with dreamy textures, loose grooves and introspective writing. After the Stitches mixtape in 2019, Lava La Rue further broadens this spectrum with the Butter-Fly EP in 2021, with contributions from Clairo and Deb Never, then with Hi-Fidelity in 2022, where Biig Piig also appears. Signed later to Dirty Hit, Lava La Rue released the album STARFACE in 2024. In parallel with music, Lava La Rue pursues visual work and artistic direction, notably through Lavaland, making videos and developing a cohesive visual identity that extends the kaleidoscopic aesthetics of her songs.
