Led by British producer Ted Jasper, berlioz is an electronic project that emerged in the United Kingdom in the early 2020s, centered on downtempo house infused with jazz and references to classical music. The track 'nyc in 1940', released in 2022, established an immediately recognizable aesthetic, blending a slow tempo, jazz harmonies, supple bass lines, and orchestrations with a cinematic flair. That same year, the EP 'jazz is for ordinary people' delved deeper into this blend of club rhythms, harmonic progressions inspired by contemporary British jazz, and string or wind arrangements that evoke the orchestral tradition. The tracks often draw on a retro sensibility, suggested by the titles, visuals, and soundtrack-like atmospheres, while remaining rooted in contemporary electronic scenes. Active mainly through DJ sets and on stages where electronic music and hybrid forms of jazz meet, berlioz develops a sonic language in which slow grooves, piano motifs, string textures, and processed vocal fragments combine in a format designed as much for attentive listening as for the club.
