A.Skillz
Under the name A.Skillz, Adam Mills has developed in England a trajectory rooted in the British breakbeat and funk scene of the early 2000s. As a DJ and producer he blends hip-hop, soul, funk, rock, electro, drum and bass and bass music in formats that emphasize groove and rhythmic collage. A.Skillz emerged on the Finger Lickin’ Records label, where he released several records and shaped an aesthetic based on intersections between break culture, funk sampling and club energy. In 2003 he released the album Tricka Technology with Krafty Kuts, a collaborative project drawing on old‑school hip‑hop and funk and featuring several MCs and vocalists. His later output includes singles such as “It’s Your Booty-day” (2003), “Simple Things / Peaches” (2005) and “Happiness / Got the Rhythm” (2008), as well as extensive remix and DJ-mix work. A.Skillz has played in a wide range of contexts—from UK clubs to festivals and international dates—maintaining a recognisable approach: sets built around genre-mixing, a sense of bounce and a very open reading of electronic music.
