DJ Yoda

Born in London in 1977 as Duncan Beiny, DJ Yoda emerged in the late 1990s on the British hip-hop scene with a turntablism approach built around sample collages, mixtapes and a penchant for subverting popular culture. After independently releasing his early mixes, he put out How to Cut and Paste Mix Tape Vol.1 in 2001 and went on to develop a style that blends hip‑hop, electronic music, trip‑hop, funk, soul and soundtracks in a format that is both narrative and highly rhythmic. He released his first album of original material, The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda, in 2006, having earlier contributed scratches to Danger Mouse and Jemini’s Ghetto Pop Life. His career has since alternated between albums, mix series and audiovisual projects, notably Chop Suey (2012), DJ Yoda Presents Breakfast of Champions (2015), Home Cooking (2019) and Prom Nite (2022). A frequent presence on club and festival stages, he has also created works linked to cinema, television and video games, extending a style marked by precise rhythm, understated humor and a highly identifiable musical montage.
