CHINCHILLA
Under the name CHINCHILLA, singer and rapper Daisy Bertenshaw has been developing a London‑based pop project since the late 2010s. Born in 1996 into a family of actors and having started in a band formed at school, Chinchilla honed her songwriting and stagecraft on the Creative Artistry course at Metropolis Studios, graduating in 2018. She independently released the single “Elements” in 2019 and the EP Awakening in 2020, which established a blend of alternative pop and R&B marked by soulful vocals and rapped passages. With Moon Maintenance for Dummies (2021) she evolved that foundation toward a more eclectic pop, playing on contrasts between intimate atmospheres and catchy choruses. Her profile broadened in 2023 with the track “Little Girl Gone,” whose online exposure built an international audience, and the EP Flytrap (2024) continued to explore themes of personal power and power dynamics. Alongside her studio releases, Daisy Bertenshaw appeared on the twelfth season of The Voice UK, joining Anne‑Marie’s team. Chinchilla often summarizes her aesthetic as “feisty‑pop,” drawing on influences from Beyoncé and Rihanna to Prince and Bon Iver, and favors direct, self‑assertive songwriting.
