Black Market Karma
Led by Stanley Belton, Black Market Karma took shape in London in 2011 before settling in Dover, Kent, around largely self‑produced studio work. The project develops a songwriting approach that sits between psychedelic rock, garage rock, 1960s pop and fuzz rock, with detours into folk, blues, motifs inspired by Indian music and a touch of lo‑fi electronics. Very prolific from the start, Black Market Karma released four albums in 2012: Comatose, Cocoon, Easy Listening and Semper Fi, then went on to Upside Out Inside Down in 2013, The Sixth Time Around in 2015, and Plastic Hippie and Animal Jive in 2016. On stage, Black Market Karma regularly tours Europe, appears at psychedelic festivals such as Liverpool Psych Fest and Lisbon Psych Fest, supported The Warlocks in 2015 and joined The Black Angels’ European tour in 2023. The band’s trajectory also shows a broadening palette, notably with the instrumental album The Technicolour Liquid Audio Machine in 2021, followed by a return to a more melodic, guitar‑driven vein on Aped Flair & Hijacked Ideas in 2022. Black Market Karma has also expanded its collaborations with other artists, from Tess Parks to The Underground Youth, including the track The Sour Truth with Sonic Boom and the collaborative album Friends In Noise in 2023.
