Howard Jones
Born in 1970 in Columbus, Ohio, Howard Jones emerged in the late 1990s on the American metal scene with Blood Has Been Shed after a stint in Driven. His vocal range mixes clean singing, screams and growls in a blend of metalcore, melodic metalcore and alternative metal. Jones joined Killswitch Engage in 2002 following Jesse Leach's departure and appears on three of the band's studio albums: The End of Heartache (2004), As Daylight Dies (2006) and Killswitch Engage (2009), where his vocal approach heightens the interplay between heavy riffs, hardcore tension and melodic choruses. After leaving in 2012 he launched Devil You Know, later renamed Light the Torch, with whom he continued to pursue a modern metal sound focused on contrasts between weight, rhythmic energy and sung lines on The Beauty of Destruction (2014), They Bleed Red (2015), Revival (2018) and You Will Be the Death of Me (2021). He has also guested on a variety of metal projects and reunited with Killswitch Engage on occasion, notably on “The Signal Fire” in 2019. Since 2021 Jones has also fronted SION, a duo with Jared Dines, whose self-titled debut was released the same year.
