Faun
Active since 1998 in Germany, Faun develops a repertoire at the crossroads of pagan folk, neomedieval, darkwave and folk rock, with a strong emphasis on European traditions, ancient texts, and writing in multiple languages. Formed around Oliver s. Tyr, the band has grown into an ensemble where voices, strings, winds and percussion mingle, in a collective format regularly reshuffled over the years. Faun articulates its aesthetics around ballads, reinterpretations of traditional dances, and original compositions, balancing acoustic material with discreet electronic processing. After Zaubersprüche in 2002 followed by Licht in 2003, the group gradually broadened its audience on German and European folk, medieval and alternative scenes. Its discography includes Renaissance (2005), Totem (2007), Buch der Balladen (2009), Eden (2011), Von den Elben (2013), Luna (2014), Midgard (2016), Märchen & Mythen (2019) and Pagan (2022). Several lineup changes accompanied this evolution, with the arrival of members such as Stephan Groth, Laura Fella or Adaya. Faun has also occasionally collaborated with other artists from folk and neo-traditional scenes, while maintaining an identity centered on the dialogue between ancient musics, popular traditions and contemporary sensibility.
