Liniker
Born in 1995 in Araraquara, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, Liniker first made her mark with the soul-funk band Liniker e os Caramelows, whose self-produced debut EP, “Cru,” appeared in 2015, followed by the albums “Remonta” in 2016 and “Goela Abaixo” in 2019. A singer, songwriter, and actress, Liniker has developed an aesthetic that bridges soul, R&B, Brazilian popular music, samba, and Afro-Latin influences, with a strong focus on vocals, brass, and lyrics engaged with questions of affect, gender, and Black identity in Brazil. A transgender artist, Liniker holds a prominent place on Brazil’s independent and queer scenes, performing both in club circuits and at national and international festivals. From 2020 onward, Liniker has pursued a solo path and, in 2021, released the album “Indigo Borboleta Anil,” which won a Latin Grammy the same year for Best MPB Album, while engaging in numerous one-off collaborations with other Brazilian musicians. Alongside her musical career, Liniker appears in film and television, notably in the series “Manhãs de Setembro,” confirming a trajectory at the intersection of music, performance, and the representation of LGBTQIA+ identities within contemporary Brazilian culture.
