Luc Langevin
Born in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Quebec, Luc Langevin developed an approach to illusion shaped by his training in biophotonics at Université Laval; he draws on the field’s vocabulary and certain demonstration principles to build a stage universe that blends science, perception and contemporary magic. He first became known on television with Comme par magie, broadcast from 2009 on ARTV, where he presented illusions in everyday contexts, and later with special programmes featuring guest artists. His television work continued with the documentary Maîtres de l’illusion – au-delà de la magie in 2014, filmed in Montreal, Paris, London and New York, and with Défier la magie in 2015, a series conceived with Stéphane Bourgoin and Mathieu Bich around illusion challenges. On stage, Luc Langevin created Réellement sur scène in 2013, a multimedia show that combines large-scale illusions with references to mathematics and physics, before presenting Maintenant Demain in 2018, directed by René Richard Cyr, which explored themes of time, anticipation and mechanisms of perception. Since then he has divided his activity between television, stage creation and touring.
