Orphx
Formed in Hamilton, Ontario, Orphx brings together Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey in a trajectory that began in the late 1990s after an initial start as a trio with Aron West. The project is rooted in industrial sounds and power electronics, gradually incorporating techno, electro and dub structures to develop a language situated between industrial techno, rhythmic noise, minimal techno and dub techno. In the second half of the 1990s Orphx was part of the European rhythmic noise scene, notably via the German label Hands, before moving more decisively toward the techno field from around 2009 with releases on Sonic Groove. Their discography includes Vita Mediativa (1998), The Living Tissue (2001), Circuitbreaking (2004), Insurgent Flows (2005), Teletai (2008), Radiotherapy (2011) and Pitch Black Mirror (2016), an album where industrial rhythms mingle more with post‑punk influences and a more pronounced use of vocals. Orphx have also developed several collaborations, including Eschaton with Ancient Methods and Light Bringer (2019) with JK Flesh. On stage the duo has performed in settings ranging from experimental festivals to techno clubs, with appearances at Berlin Atonal, Mutek, Unsound, Berghain and Tresor.
