Giolì & Assia

Based between Palermo and Sicily, Giolì & Assia bring together the producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Giolì — who plays piano, cello, drums, guitar and handpan — and the singer, guitarist and author Assia. The duo takes shape in 2016, after an initial professional relationship between the two musicians, and then develops a joint project at the crossroads of melodic house, techno, electronic pop and a more intimate indie songwriting. Giolì & Assia founded in the same year their Diesis Records label to release their music independently, then released the albums Istantanee in 2017 and Mooncake in 2018. Their approach rests on a balance between electronic production, singing and live-played instrumentation, with tracks that blend airy vocal lines, synthetic textures, house rhythms and more cinematic moods. From 2019, Giolì & Assia significantly broadened their audience with the filmed performances series #DiesisLive, touring across several natural and heritage sites in Sicily, notably Milazzo, the Andromeda Theatre, Isola delle Femmine and Mount Etna. These sessions established a recognizable stage identity, conceived as a live format where electronic performance dialogues with acoustic instruments and the voice.
