Sleep D

In Melbourne/Naarm, Sleep D brings together Maryos Syawish and Corey Kikos, childhood friends of Iraqi and Maltese descent, who work as producers, DJs and co-founders of the Butter Sessions label. The duo operates across a wide area of electronic music—mutant house, dub techno, ambient, downtempo and rave heritage—with a marked taste for hypnotic rhythms, deep bass and hazy textures. Sleep D began releasing in the early 2010s and quickly developed a steady catalog on Butter Sessions, while also appearing on labels such as Incienso, Planet Euphorique and Cocktail d’Amore. Their discography includes the album Rebel Force (2019) and Electronic Arts (2023), two releases that reveal a flexible writing style capable of moving from physical club music to slower, more atmospheric pieces. In 2021 Sleep D broadened this scope with Flashed Glass, a project led with a chamber orchestra, and the duo has also worked on musical reinterpretations of films like Eraserhead and Pan’s Labyrinth. Sleep D thus moves between live formats and DJ sets, performing on club stages, at festivals and in electronic music contexts in Australia and internationally.
