Laolu
Born to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother, Laolu first grew up in Nigeria in an environment steeped in jazz and soul — his parents ran the club The Gallery — before continuing his training in France, where he studied saxophone and music theory. At 18, discovering Derrick May and Carl Craig turned him toward electronic music and led him to set aside the instrument in favor of production. Later based in Geneva, Laolu developed a DJ practice and met Kadebostan, with whom he forged his first stage connections. His discography began to take shape with the O Fantasma EP in 2010 on Clap Your Hands, followed by releases on labels such as Mental Groove, Freude am Tanzen, Defected and Innervisions. In 2014 he wrote and produced “Sene Kela” for Raoul K, and in 2015 he delivered a remix of Dele Sosimi’s “Too Much Information” on Innervisions. Laolu’s trajectory moves between Geneva and several European scenes, notably Berlin, Paris, Kraków and Tbilisi. His aesthetic blends house and techno with percussive lines, a deep tension and Afro, soul and jazz resonances, giving Laolu a sound that is at once direct, dense and mobile.
